#Breakthebias
Next Tuesday 8 March is International Women's Day and this year's theme is #BreakTheBias. To mark #IWD I have recorded a special joint podcast with Cityparents on 'Gender, Bias and Confidence at Work' and how corporates and leaders can help address the main issues for women at work today. You can access resources and guidance for International Women's Day here and also subscribe to my Confidence Conversation podcast on Apple or Spotify to listen to this special episode on its release.
Here are my 3 things to know this month:
Nearly 40% of FTSE 100 board roles now held by women. The first report published by the FTSE Women Leaders Review last week found the UK is now second in international rankings for women’s representation on boards at FTSE 100 level, with nearly 40% of positions now held by women, compared with 12.5% 10 years ago. The report also sets out four new recommendations to achieve gender balance and bring new focus to the appointment of women at the very highest levels. You can read the full report here.
How job sharing can boost careers. My recent article for People Management with Alix Ainsley and Charlotte Cherry who job share the role of Director of Talent & Learning at the John Lewis Partnership examines how job sharing can offer many rewards - both across home and working life. And if you want to listen to Alix and Charlotte talk about job sharing and how to make it successful, you can also listen to our accompanying podcast episode here.
Fawcett Sex and Power 2022 Index. The latest report from The Fawcett Society found that across 5,166 positions of power in UK society, women make-up under a third (32%) and women of colour are vastly under-represented in many sectors. As a result, Fawcett is calling for targets to increase the number of women in positions of power, improved pay gap reporting and flexible working as default for all job roles. You can download the report and read more here.
Finally, an update on my new book 'Don't Fix Women: The practical path to gender equality at work'. I'm pleased to be sending the manuscript to my editor and beta readers this week (and taking a moment to celebrate this milestone!). If you'd like to book my new keynote talk on 'Don't Fix Women' for organizations, please do get in touch.
