Equal pay day

Today is Giving Tuesday and I am now proud to be an ambassador for the Unleashed Women campaign by the Hunger Project UK, a global charity that is putting a stop to world hunger through the empowerment and education of women in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. To join me and support their incredible work, you can donate or find out how you can get involved here, and if you are a small business owner who would like to DOUBLE your impact through matched funding then you can click here. Thank you - every little helps to make a difference in the lives of women around the world.

Here are my 3 things to know from November:

  1. Equal Pay Day 2021. This year's Equal Pay Day fell on Thursday 18 November - the day of the year where women stop earning, relative to men, because of the gender pay gap. This year’s gender pay gap is 11.9% and it is sadly on the rise. The Fawcett Society is calling for employers to take the #EndSalaryHistory pledge: stopping a recruitment practice that perpetuates gender inequality by asking new recruits how much they were paid in previous jobs. You can read more here.

  2. How to support men to share the care. The Global Institute for Women's Leadership hosted a brilliant panel event last week about how we can better support men to share caring responsibilities. It's a topic I'm writing about in my new book 'Don't Fix Women' and if you can share any examples of how sharing the care has helped you, I'd love to hear from you. The full recording of the event with Shadow Business Secretary Ed Miliband is available to watch here.

  3. *NEW* Women's health and wellbeing support - Hormone Hubs. A major obstacle for women at work is dealing with hormone challenges and the four Ms – monthlies, miscarriage, maternity and menopause. The symptoms and side effects of all of these can be debilitating, have a major impact on a woman’s confidence and can lead to women leaving the workplace altogether. In response, I have developed a new group coaching programme for organisations wanting to support women in these areas. I'm really excited about this new programme and am looking for one or two organisations to pilot our Hormone Hubs in the New Year - do reply to this email or get in touch if you'd like to hear more.

Finally, as it's such an important topic, this season's focus on my podcast The Confidence Conversation is also on the four Ms. In case you missed them, the first two episodes on miscarriage and monthlies are already live and you can subscribe here for future episodes. We'll be sharing some great tips on dealing with the challenges and what organisations could be doing to support women.

Until next time,

Joy
