FTSE Women Leaders Review

For decades, women have talked about juggling career and home life. Earlier this month, I was honoured to talk to Denise Wilson OBE, Chief Executive of the FTSE Women Leaders Review who likened the load that women carry to rocks in a rucksack, slowing down progression and contributing to the unevenness of the playing field. I love this analogy and you can read my Forbes article on how some of the rocks can be removed. Let me know if this resonates and any actions you or your company are taking to remove the rocks - it would be super helpful background for my book!

Here are my other 3 things to know from October:

  1. Why you need to let Superwoman go. For the final episode of my podcast season on 'Fitting Life and Work Together' I was joined by the inspirational Dr Joanna Martin, Founder of One of many. If you have ever ventured into ‘superwoman’ mode, then this one is for you! You can catch up on all the episodes from this season on The Confidence Conversation by subscribing here, it's full of fantastic tips and advice from women sharing their own real-life stories.

  2. Fertility is a Workplace Matter. In recognition of Baby Loss Awareness Week, I spoke to Emma Menzies for a Forbes article on how difficulties conceiving and miscarriage impact working women’s lives, which in turn has inevitable consequences for an organisation’s productivity, performance and bottom line. To find out more about this issue, the work-related impact, and how organisations can change, read the full article here.

  3. Perimenopause and menopause awareness. I was overcome by the support I received to my post on World Menopause Day. In case you missed it, I wanted to tell my story to help raise awareness and shared two free resources which you or women in your organisation may find helpful - 34 symptoms of perimenopause and a 28-day Energy Tracker. If you want to hear more about how we help organisations support women managing menopause at work, do get in touch.

Finally, International Men's Day is approaching on 19 November. One of the six pillars of the day is to improve gender relations and promote gender equality not only for men but for women too, and the theme this year is 'Better relations between men and women'.

On this theme, I've interviewed leading male CEOs, including CEOs of London Stock Exchange Group, National Grid and Waitrose, for a series of Forbes articles on how they are progressing gender balance in the workplace. Look out for those this month and until next time,

Joy
